Viewing PDF Files with IE

Have you had problems viewing PDF files from our web pages when using Microsoft Internet Explorer? Internet Explorer may display a blank page instead of displaying a Portable Document Format (PDF) type document.

This behavior occurs because the uniform resource identifier (URI) for the PDF document does not end in .pdf when the PDF document is stored as a member of an MVS partitioned dataset.

One solution is to right click on the PDF file and choose "Save Target As ...", the PDF file will download to your PC and you can view it locally with Adobe Reader.

Another solution is to change the preferences in your Adobe Reader. For Adobe Reader 6.0, in the menu bar select Edit and then Preferences. In the Preferences list, to the left highlight Internet. In the Web Browser Options box, uncheck the box for Display PDF in browser. This will force the PDF document to display correctly, in a separate window.

Some people have reported that the problem went away when they installed the latest version 7 of the Adobe Reader.
